I am extremely proud to present our film EVELYN to you. Six years in the making, EVELYN is finally coming to the big screen beginning this Friday, December 13th, in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Toronto.
Set in Ireland in the 1950s, the film tells the story of my character, Desmond Doyle, and his fight to regain custody of his children after they’re taken away and placed in orphanages by the combined power of the church and government. It's a true story of family, love and courage.
This is the third film from our production company, Irish DreamTime (after The Thomas Crown Affair and The Nephew), and it has surpassed all my wildest dreams. At the helm is the wonderfully talented director Bruce Beresford. We also have an amazing ensemble cast, which includes Julianna Margulies, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea, Alan Bates, and newcomer Sophie Vavasseur as Evelyn. Only once in a great while does a script with such emotion and, thankfully, humor, come across an actor’s desk. To be able to act in this film as well as to produce makes this project even more memorable for me.
I hope you take as much pleasure from seeing EVELYN as we did from making it. Please pass this on to friends and family, as the film is going out in limited release “ five cities the first week, an additional eight the next, and six more the following week. How it does in these first few cities will determine how long it stays in the cinema. In this season of big, spectacle films (and yes, I know something about those, too), I urge you to make room for something from the heart.
Thank you for helping get the word out. Thank you, too, for your continued support in our endeavors.
I wish you and your family a special holiday season.
