Todd McCarthy, Daily Variety Chief Film Critic: "The only film so far this year that I've thoroughly enjoyed and admired is ``The Tailor of Panama'' John Boorman's sardonic visit to Graham Greene territory courtesy of John Le Carre. While the picture may not rank among the director's very best, it nonetheless brandishes a nasty wit and mature confidence in short supply at the moment and -- rare among Boorman's films -- it's also ideally cast and acted."

Variety: "Three weeks ago in this column, I bemoaned the staggering awfulness of the films emanating from the Hollywood studios thus far in 2001, with the only genuinely good one, ``The Tailor of Panama'' catching its distributor (Columbia Pictures) unaware of what it had".

(4/30) "Some movies are sprinters and some are just steady adult choices, and I'd say this is a welcome one of those," Sony Pictures Entertainment worldwide marketing & distribution president Jeff Blake said Sunday morning. "We think we're going to get it to $12-15 m."

"This was very inexpensive (to produce). It was $12 million. Everyone took a little less to work with John Boorman, and I think everyone's pretty satisfied with the results."
